Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using our countdown timer for productivity, events, classrooms, and more.
Timer Features
Enter your desired hours, minutes, and seconds using the input fields, then click the Start button. The countdown begins immediately. You can also use our quick preset buttons (5, 10, 15, 25, 30, 45, or 60 minutes) for common intervals.
Yes! Click Pause to halt the timer at any point, then Resume to continue counting down from exactly where you left off. This is perfect for unexpected interruptions during meetings or focus sessions.
The timer continues counting into negative time (e.g., -00:01:15), displayed in red with a blinking animation. This "overtime tracking" feature helps you see exactly how much you've exceeded your planned time. If the sound alert is enabled, it chimes every 15 seconds as a reminder.
Yes! Check the "Play gentle beep when time expires" option before starting. When the timer reaches zero (or goes negative), you'll hear a pleasant notification sound. You can stop the sound at any time by clicking the sound button.
Absolutely! Our design is fully responsive and works great on smartphones, tablets, and desktops. The interface automatically adjusts to your screen size while maintaining full functionality.
Yes! Click the "Enable Dark Mode" button on the homepage to switch to a darker, eye-friendly theme. Your preference is saved automatically for future visits.
Productivity & Techniques
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method using 25-minute focus sessions followed by 5-minute breaks. Our timer has a dedicated 25-minute preset button perfect for Pomodoro sessions. Learn more in our complete Pomodoro guide.
Time blocking involves dedicating specific time blocks to specific tasks. Use our timer to enforce these blocks—set 60-90 minutes for deep work, 30 minutes for email batching, etc. The timer helps you stay committed to your planned schedule. Read our time blocking guide for strategies.
For deep work sessions, we recommend 45-90 minute blocks using our 45 or 60-minute presets. Enable the sound alert so you're gently reminded when it's time for a break. The negative time feature helps if you're in flow and want to track overtime. See our deep work timer guide.
Presentations & Events
Yes! Click the Detach button to open the timer in a separate window. In the settings panel, you can:
• Choose background colors (including green screen for streaming)
• Hide controls for a clean display
• Auto-fit the timer size to fill the screen
• Use keyboard shortcuts (F for fullscreen, S for settings)
Absolutely! Teachers love our timer for quizzes, group activities, transitions, and timed exercises. The large display is visible from across the room, and the detached window mode works great on projectors. Check out our classroom timer guide for best practices.
Share your screen with the timer visible, or project it in the meeting room. Use the detached window in presentation mode for a professional look. The negative time display shows everyone exactly how much they've gone over, encouraging better time management. Read our timed meetings guide.
